Sir Graham Balfour School

A member of Insight Multi-Academy Trust

Welcome to Sir Graham Balfour

Choosing a school is one of the most important things you will do as a parent, a carer or a pupil.

This is a community high school in every sense of the word. We pride ourselves in knowing every student. Our aim is to make learning enjoyable and worthwhile and we are committed to this. Our school is a happy, inclusive and vibrant place. We respect each other and we are tolerant of each other. We share a thirst for learning and we are not complacent.

We would encourage you to view our website, look at our prospectus and come and visit us. We have a dedicated ‘Open Evening’ with tours during the month of October, but please, call us at any time to arrange a tour on a normal working day.

If you are applying for a Year 7 place in September 2023 you will receive guidance on the application process from Staffordshire Local Authority.

However, if you are seeking a place for your son/daughter ‘mid- year’ then please contact the school directly. Mrs Metcalfe is the school’s contact for all mid- year admissions. She will organise a meeting to discuss the admission process. We currently have a PAN (Planned Admission Number) of 170 pupils per year group.

The school has a very good reputation locally. Consistently for many years we have enjoyed examination success.

We have had year on year improvement at both GCSE and A Level due to outstanding teaching, precise tracking and intervention of individual students and positive parent/school partnerships. We pride ourselves on the personalised learning programme for each of our students which ensures they achieve or exceed their targets.

However, the school is not simply an examination factory and one of the key factors in all of the surveys that we carry out is that the overwhelming majority of students enjoy coming to Sir Graham Balfour High School and are happy here. They have opportunities to shine in many different ways and the House system plays an enormous role in this.

Our students embrace the opportunities to support the wider community. Our Student Council and House Captains are instrumental in ensuring our participation in events that supports both our local and global community. Projects include fundraising activities for Katherine House hospice; supporting MOD Stafford by participating in Armed Forces Day and Red, White and Blue Day; raising money for national charities – Anti-Bullying, Children in Need, Comic Relief and Sports Relief; and, our school Sir Graham Balfour Cambodia built entirely by our own fundraising efforts in 2005.

I am sure that, as you further explore our website, you will get a feel for our culture and ethos.

We look forward to welcoming you to Sir Graham Balfour High School.
